What is Aptos?
Aptos is a layer-1 blockchain that uses Proof-of-Stake (PoS) as its consensus mechanism. It aims to address the issues of reliability, scalability, availability, and security faced by many other layer-1 blockchains. Aptos has adopted a smart contract programming language called "Move," which was formerly used by Diem, a cryptocurrency project started by Facebook and later sold to Silvergate Capital. One of the key features of Move is its ability to perform "parallel execution," allowing it to execute over 160,000 non-trivial transactions per second, making Aptos the most scalable layer-1 blockchain currently available. In addition, Move is known for its innovation in asset security and is also considered developer-friendly compared to other popular programming languages like Solidity and Rust.
What is APT?
APT is the native cryptocurrency of the Aptos network, which is used to pay for transactions and network fees. It follows the typical tokenomics of most PoS tokens used to incentivize network participation and provide economic security for the public blockchain. Validators use APT to secure the network, and delegators use them to earn rewards for supporting the network. Currently, Aptos staking is only available to those who run validator nodes, but soon, common users will be able to delegate their APT to a validator node. APT is currently ranked as the 63rd largest cryptocurrency by market value and is traded on many cryptocurrency exchanges.

Parallel execution is a technique used to increase the efficiency and scalability of a blockchain network by allowing it to handle multiple transactions or other types of data simultaneously. Aptos uses parallel execution to process many transactions per second, making the blockchain network more efficient and capable of handling a higher volume of activity. This can be especially useful when the network is experiencing high usage levels or needs to process a large number of transactions quickly. Before the official launch of Aptos mainnet, the new layer-one blockchain was advertised to process 160,000 transactions per second (TPS). However, its peak TPS in the last 30 days is only 563, according to data as of December 2022.
